How to get that perfect look? The ABCD of applying makeup.

A properly applied makeup can enhance your natural features and to kind of fade out features you dislike. Following are the guidelines for doing the makeup in a professional way.

1. Cleansing

A cleanser is a facial care product that is used to remove make-up, dead skin cells, oil, dirt, and other types of pollutants from the skin of the face. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne.

Take small amount of cleanser in fingertips and apply all over the face and neck by circular motions for 1 or 2 min and wipe it off.

2. Toning

Toner may serve various purposes- to refine the pores, to soften the skin, to clean off any soap residue that was not dissolved by rinsing.

Take some toner in a cotton and wipe it off on the skin or spray the toner and blot the excess with a tissue.

3. Moisturizer/primer or both

Moisturizers or emollients are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin (epidermis) softer and more pliable. They increase the skin's hydration (water content) by reducing evaporation.

A foundation primer may work like a moisturizer, or it may absorb oil with salicylic acid or aid in creating a less oily, more matte appearance. It aids in applying the foundation more evenly and smoothly, and increases the longevity of the foundation. A foundation primer helps you to achieve a more professional looking makeup.

Apply moisturizer/primer suitable for each skin type nicely and blend it off.

4. Foundation

Foundation is a skin colored cosmetic applied to the face to create an even, uniform color to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skin tone.

Foundation should be exactly same as that of skin and apply with a brush or sponge or finger tips and blend it properly by dabbing.

5. Translucent powder/loose powder

Translucent powder is a sheer, colorless facial powder usually used to set makeup, not to cover or add color. It can also be used just to control shine and give the complexion a matte finish. Apply translucent powder with a large powder brush, brushing lightly all over your face.

6. Eye shadows

Eye shadow is a cosmetic that is applied on the eyelids and under the eyebrows. It is commonly used to make the wearer's eyes stand out or look more attractive. Eye shadow can add depth and dimension to one's eyes, complement the eye color, or simply draw attention to the eyes.
Eye shadows are applied in the following order
  1. Base color(similar to eye lid color)
  2. Medium shadow over from eyelash area to the crease
  3. Contour or shape the end of eyelash line with a deeper color
  4. Highlight just under the brow bone with a lighter eye shadow
  5. Eyeliner
Eyeliner is a cosmetic used to define the eyes. It is applied around the contours of the eye(s) to create a variety of aesthetic effects. Eyeliner is applied thick or thin using a brush.

8. Mascara

Mascara is a cosmetic commonly used to enhance the eyes. It may darken, thicken, lengthen, and/or define the eyelashes.

Mascara is applied on bottom of lashes and top by stretching the eyelid

9. Lipstick

After applying the lip balm or lip primer, lipstick is applied with a lip brush by lining the lip shape and then filling inside. Apply lip gloss over the lipstick if necessary.

10. Blush

Blush is a cosmetic typically used to redden the cheeks so as to provide a more youthful appearance, and to emphasize the cheekbones. The whole idea of putting color on your cheeks is to mimic a healthy glow.

Blush is applied on the cheek bone or under the cheekbones according to face features and blend it nicely so as to appear as if it is a natural glow.

7 Ways to Fight Aging

While most women think it is more than hard work to achieve the goal of keeping skin healthy and youthful, it doesn't have to be that complicated. In fact, if you know the simple steps to having a daily skin care treatment, there won't be necessarily a need to resort to expensive procedures just to maintain a flawless skin and body.

1) Drinking lots of Water: The first natural anti-aging care treatment, drinking lots of water per day helps make your skin hydrated while your body cleaned and flushed with toxins. Hydrated skin makes you look younger as it tends to look plumper and clearer. So don't forget to count eight glasses of water intake to achieve that youthful and healthy glowing skin.

2) Eating Healthy:  Second most important anti-aging skin care treatment, eating a healthy and good balanced diet food is a secret to keeping your skin tissues intact and supple. Food diet must include all important food groups. Lots of fibers, fresh fruits, and green leafy vegetables are a staple to a diet if you want your skin to keep looking and feeling younger every day. They contain minerals and vitamins which are a must because they help repair damaged skin tissues and cells and maintain young skin. You must also cut out fatty, oily, and salty foods from your diet. They easily ruin the objective of having healthy diet.

3) Exercise: Another vital component to having that perfectly glowing skin and feeling stronger body, a regular exercise should be done at least thrice a week. It will make you sweat out; thus, releasing the toxins in your body. It work wonders too in keeping your skin cleared and refreshed. Plus, it makes you feel healthier and stronger.

4) Avoiding Sun:  Keep your skin in good shape and in condition by avoiding the sun rays and UV radiations. Sun is the number one factor that can damage the skin. It can even give you premature wrinkles and lines. If you cannot help but stay out, you must at least use a good sun screen lotion or sun block to protect your skin from the damaging rays. It is nice to sport a tan; however, if you are not careful, it can go to a worst scenario as having skin cancer.

5) Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake: Stop smoking and don't drink beyond the limit intake. Smoking is the best way to damage your skin. It contains chemicals that makes your skin age faster. Excessive drinking alcohol is as well harmful. It makes your liver full and thus no longer capable of flushing your body with toxins.

6) Anti-aging treatments: Use anti-aging treatment products that contain antioxidants and ingredients such as retinol, Vitamin C, A, and ceramides. They will work wonders in repairing your slightly damaged skin.

7) Stress-free life: And lastly, keep a positive outlook in life. Live a calm, stress-free life. Life is sometimes difficult, but if your body is constantly stressed out, it releases chemicals that can make you physically or mentally ill. The lack of sleep and lack of good exercise is never good to your body and skin. It's not only the skin that gets affected but your hair as well. And they can really make you look years older than what really your age is.

Acne on Adults

Acne is often thought of as a teenage dilemma, and while it is true that acne appears most often during the teenage years, it is arguably just as true that there are a growing number of individuals that suffer from adult acne.

Adults in their twenties, all the way up to their fifties can still experience acne flare-ups.  And adult acne can have just as many negative effects on a person as teenage acne.  Possibly even more so, as the stress of career and family adds to the strain of living with an unsightly skin problem.

Mental stress can be one of the major causes of acne in adults.  It is not a surprise in the slightest that women are often more likely to suffer from adult acne than men, as it has been shown that women have much more stress in their day to day lifestyle, not to mention that they are prone to hormonal imbalances, especially during times such as their menstrual cycle and pregnancy.  Just as in teens, hormones play an important factor in the onset and exacerbation of adult acne.

The environmental factors that surround a person, paired with the individual's lifestyle can also play a huge role in the appearance of adult acne.  An improper diet or behaviors such as smoking and drinking affect the skin's condition and resistance to acne, as well as other diseases.

Prevention is the only obvious way to go when dealing with adult acne. A proper diet, paired with plenty of water and rest is a good start.  Trying to relieve stress and maintaining proper skin care and hygiene can also help to prevent acne from occurring.

But what about the pimples that you may already have?  There are many treatments available for people who have adult acne.

Anti-acne medications, certain skin care products, and even laser surgery are just a few of the many treatments available for acne on the market today.  Visiting a qualified doctor or dermatologist is the only way to determine how severe your acne really is and to find the proper treatment available for you.

How to Conquer your Acne?

Over 90% of all adolescents and almost 25% of all adults suffer from acne at some time. Acne affects males and females alike, regardless of age. The most effective methods to combat acne include a combination of prevention and better skincare. Here are some of the ways you can use to prevent and treat acne:

1. Exercise:- Regular exercise can help fight acne by fighting off negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem and depression. But avoid wearing tight synthetic exercise outfits. These synthetic fabrics that tend to trap body moisture and heat, creating an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. Stick to loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends, and keep your sports gear and equipment clean.

2. Safe Cosmetics:- To avoid pore-clogging and skin irritations that can contribute to acne, use products labeled "noncomedogenic" or "oil-free." Opt for "hypo-allergenic" perfumes and cosmetics to avoid allergic reactions and skin irritation. Coal tar derivatives, carmine and heavy cream in blushes can cause reactions.  Shimmering facial colors can contain a flaky mineral called mica that can cause skin irritations and clog pores. Use a lip gloss with a matte finish for less pore-clogging. The more the shine, the more then comedogenic content and the more your pores can clog.

3. Healthy Diet:- Studies show that diet does not play a role in either the cause or the treatment of acne. However, what is best for your body is best for your skin. So make sure you get enough vitamins, minerals and supplements that have been known and recommended to prevent and help conquer acne breakouts. These include
  • Vitamin A or Retinol (High doses are toxic)
  • Vitamin B Complex
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • L-Carnitine
  • Zinc

A good quality brand name multivitamin will probably have the recommended vitamins and minerals that you need to help with acne prevention. Drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day and making good, healthy dietary food choices.

4. Hormonal Treatment:- Hormones (or a lack of them) during later years - especially for womenn can play a role in acne flare-ups and prevention. One recent study showed that about 50 percent of women have acne, referred to as hormonal acne, problems during the week before their menstruation. Treatment options include topical retinoids, oral antibiotics and Benzoyl Peroxide for teen years. For adults oral contraceptives or hormonal birth control pills and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) may be helpful for women, combined with systemic or topical treatments, prescription or over-the-counter products and medications.

5. Healthy Skin Regimen:- Avoid harsh scrubbing or over-washing, because this can cause possible skin irritation or possible over production of oil to replace what's washed off, clogging pores in the process. Use products with gentle exfoliation ingredients and skip products that contain alcohol. Some of the more popular products on the market that can prevent acne include:
  •      Benzoyl Peroxide
  •      Salicylic Acid
  •      Retinoids
  •      Antibiotics
  •      Oral Contraceptives
  •      Anti-Androgens
  •      Isotretinoin (Accutane)

6. Shaving:- Shaving is actually an excellent way of exfoliating or removing dead skin to help with the prevention and spreading of acne instead of leaving the remains to clog pores. And for some light acne cases already in process, shaving can help rid whiteheads and blackheads from the face. Do not shave areas that are sore or infected. Use a shaving cream for sensitive skin. Shave with a sharp blade. Use gentle swipes instead of heavy pressure and go with the flow or "grain." A single-edged blade is better than a twin-blade razor. Electric razors may not shave as close to the skin, but they help with the prevention of acne and other skin breakouts and flare-ups better.

7. Stress:- Stress includes external and internal stressors. External Stressors are those that compromise your skin's ability to heal, like oily make-up and too much sun. Internal stressors like anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression and a variety of other internalized emotions, can trigger chemical reactions inside your body that can result in acne flare-ups and other skin irritations. To combat internal stressors and prevent acne problems, get plenty of rest and sleep. Try to maintain regular hours. Keep a check list of "Things that Calm You" handy for stressful times, like reading a book, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for an ice cream cone, etc.

7 things about galvanic facials you should know

All of us love facials because we love to get pampered. There are many types of facials available in the salons and spas at various price points. A galvanic facial is one of them and it is the most misunderstood one. Most women considers a galvanic facial inferior compared to the other type of facials. But what is the reality?

  1. Galvanic facial is inexpensive: Compared to metallic facials like gold, diamond, silver and pearl a galvanic facial provides value for money.
  2. It is suitable for all skin types: Ampoules/products are available for all types of skin and skin problems. You get maximum benefits if the right products are used.
  3. The product actually goes beneath your skin: In metallic facials the expensive facial packs you are using will not penetrate the skin. When you wash your face the product is wasted down the drain. But in galvanic facial the product actually penetrates the skin and effects last longer.
  4. Based on the basic laws of electricity: Positive and negative ions of the electrodes pull together like a magnet and push the product in to the deeper layers of the skin.
  5. It has two stages: Disincrustation and Iontophoresis. Disincrustation is process like scrubbing that dissolves excess oil, opens clogged pores and removes black heads and other debris easily. But it is only needed for oily skin. For other skin type’s only Iontophoresis part is enough. This part infuses the product deep into the skin.
  6. There is a product available for correcting every skin problem: The ampoules are commonly available for hydrating the skin, anti-pigmentation, anti-acne (pimples), skin scars, fine lines and wrinkles correction, skin lightening, skin firming etc. It is important to identify the skin problem and using correct products for maximum benefits.
  7. It requires expertise to perform: Identifying the skin types, skin problems and selecting the right products requires proper training and expertise. This is one of the reason for the lesser popularity of the galvanic facials. Many technicians are not well trained to perform the galvanic facial and they won’t recommend it to the clients even though it is inexpensive and effective.
So keep these things in mind and ask for a galvanic facial next time you visit any salon. Wish you a happy galvanic facial:)

6 reasons to get facials regularly

A good relaxing facial provides lot of benefits to your skin, personality and general wellbeing. If done regularly and properly it helps to maintain the natural look of your skin and helps to delay the surfacing of the aging symptoms. A monthly facial is advisable to you if you want to take good care of your normal skin and facials every two weeks if you possess problematic and aging skin.

  1. Relieves stress and lifts the mood:- The facial massage given as part of the facial is good in reliving the stress and strain.  It reduces the anxiety levels and improves the mood.
  2.  Delays the aging process:- Facials helps to keep the health of the skin at peak levels and delays the aging process. It tones, tightens and rejuvenates the skin.
  3. Improves self-esteem:- Any effort spent on personal care does much more to you than improving your physical appearance. It also improves your self-image and self-esteem and it reflects on you much better than anything else.
  4. Removes all the impurities in your skin:- Our skin has lot of pores in it. The facial process deeply cleanses the skin and removes all the impurities accumulated in these pores due to pollution and other means.
  5.  Helps to prevent and detect skin diseases:- Regular facials are good in eradicating the post acne marks and pigmentation. The skin analysis prior to the facials can detect the malfunctioning of internal organs and helps early detection of skin diseases such as skin cancer.
  6. Balances sebum and oil production:- The sebaceous glands in our face secrete the oily, waxy substance called sebum. The over production of oil and sebum can contribute to problems like acne and the greasy look. Regular facials control the production of skin oils and sebum and give that natural look to the skin.
